Thank-you to chapter member John Jordan who passed on the following update from the Maryland Commission of Real Estate Appraisers and Home Inspectors and who also lead a very thorough review of the official Maryland Standards Of Practice and Code Of Ethics at our June '08 Chapter meeting:

"On April 24 Governor O'Malley signed into law SB 196.

This bill has the following effect on anyone applying for a Maryland Home Inspection License after October 1, 2008:

1.        The pre-licensing education requirements are increased from 48 hours to 72 hours.

2.        Home inspector applicants will be required to pass the National Home Inspector Exam or its equivalent.

3.        The amount of general liability insurance increases from $50,000. to $150,000.

This law will not affect anyone getting their application in by September 2008.

Any future license renewals will have to carry at least $150,000 of liability insurance.

Please stress to your members that the DLLR is taking a firm hand on enforcing these standards and code.

I will be in touch with any future updates.

Regards,

John Jordan"
